We all know the story. The octopus and the mermaid have never registered in our minds as being anything other than complete opposites. Maybe at one point Ariel was naïve enough to think Ursula was doing her a favor, but stealing her voice in exchange for legs and then trying to get prince Eric for herself wasn’t exactly a pure act of friendship. Anyway, what they didn’t tell you is that even though prince Eric was really sexy and all that, Ariel got bored pretty quickly and went back to the colorful ocean AKA New York City.
Ariel and Ursula both wanted to be in the big bad city for summer 2011. We wanted to test out the waters of New York before entering the job market.
Ursula loves fashion and she loves to play dress-up. The way she learned how to walk in heels was by watching Mrs. J strut her stuff on America’s Next Top Model. True Story. But more than just fashion Ursula loves to explore and find new things. With the attention span of a fly and the curiosity of a cat you can count on her to make interesting discoveries.
Ariel loves telling stories through film and photography. When she was little she refused to wear pants, only dresses. She was three years old when her mother bought her her first pair of sneakers and after taking one look; Ariel took her mom back to the store to exchange them for yet another pair of ballerina flats.
We met May 31st. Ursula had been in The King Collective office for one day before she met her fellow intern Ariel. Yes, these are our real names and no we’re not joking.
Against all odds and the fate of our names, we became friends, well, on Facebook. Just kidding, we actually do like each other.
On our first staff meeting our boss told us to “get creative” with the new media and social network sites. We got excited. When the meeting was over we rushed out of the office and began to brainstorm. And that’s the beginning of the Misadventures of Ariel and Ursula.
